Course Selection: Endless Choices
Coming out of high school in India with limited choices in course streams, the virtually unlimited variety available at college and university can often become overwhelming. It is not unusual for the course guide of a university to be over a hundred pages in print, throwing open even wider options as you try and create an assorted medley in fields of interest.

It is quite usual for a biology major taking media studies as a subject in one year, or a computer science specialist taking linguistics. In fact, students are encouraged in the first year of undergraduate studies to explore subjects without carving a rigid subject path just yet.

In the US, this is in line with the liberal arts philosophy on which their entire higher education system has been grounded.

The vast selection of subjects available at the university of your choice can be viewed on their individual websites. However, to get an idea of the width of programs available, for instance, in community colleges is quite an eye opener. Regular subjects like Business, Computers, Biomedical, Engineering, History and Mathematics are just the beginning. From Ethnic, Cultural and Gender studies to Parks, Recreation, Leisure and Fitness studies; from Theology and Religious vocations to Natural Resources and Conservation to Military Technologies, there is every subject you were curious about and more.
